SID/JSID Young Fellow Collegiality Awards

2010 SID/JSID Young Fellow Collegiality Awards

■Who is Eligible?
  1. Member of the JSID (one year or longer)
  2. Currently active in investigative dermatology at a university department or laboratory or similar institution in Japan
  3. Under age 40 as April 1
  4. Not a professor
  5. Make sure you submit an abstract for the 2010 SID Annual Meeting (Atlanta, Georgia)
    (deadline January 19, 2010 (Tue.); see SID website for details http://www.sidnet.org/default.aspx)
■What are the Benefits?
  1. A diploma will be given at the SID annual meeting and the awardee will be able to include the award as a formal academic award on his or her curriculum vitae.
  2. The JSID will award successful applicants 300,000 yen to assist with travel and accommodation.
  3. The SID will waive the registration fee for its annual meeting.
  4. There will be the opportunity to present and discuss your data by visiting a Department in the U.S.
    (If the awardee does not have a chosen institution, the JSID and SID will provide information on such institutions.)

NB Any additional costs (e.g. for travel and accommodation for the Departmental visit) will need to be borne by the applicant or the host Department.

■How Many Awards will there be?

Up to three awardees per year

■How do I apply for an award?

Apply by e-mail to the JSID (jsid@pop.med.hokudai.ac.jp)
(deadline for applications 20 February 2010)

Applications should include:

  1. One-page CV
  2. Department (or institution) chosen for a visit in the U.S.
  3. Brief note (letter or e-mail) from the head of a department in the U.S. confirming his/her willingness to host you, if the application is successful. (If the department or institution to be visited is not confirmed, please write it so. The SID or JSID will help in finding a department or institution.)
  4. A copy of the abstract submitted for the SID meeting
  5. A list of abstracts for presentations given at past JSID meetings
  6. A list of publications (papers in English)
  7. Recommendation letter from a professor (Chief) of the department where applicant belong to.

Note: Please write all application documents in English.

■Who will judge the applications?

The judging panel will comprise 4 representatives of the JSID and one person nominated by the SID Board.

■When will Successful Applicants be notified?

The JSID will aim to announce the names of the successful applicants by mid March 2010.

The JSID and SID very much hope that these awards will help develop the careers and profile of young researchers by providing the opportunity for international exchange and collegiality.
